This is my favorite of Ellen Hopkins series mostly because it doesn't just read like torture porn. A lot of her books don't even have hopeful endings: someone dies or doesnt make their way out, every single time. Tricks allowed the characters to leave and improve their lives. With emotional and physical trauma, but not dead. This book was ultimately hopeful,
