Evaluation Out Of Books Belle (Belle #1)

I have spent the past couple of days immersed in the story of Belle, and have travelled from the slums of Seven Dials in London to New Orleans via Paris with each and every character and place described beautifully and jumping out from the pages. Lesley Pearse has long been one of my very favourite authors, she is a true storyteller and this is her at her very very best. Ugh. Two stars for a good storyline. Less than one star for everything else. My "issues" (because we know I have them)- Set in 1910/ London/ Paris/ New Orleanse. Pearse fell flat by not leveraging the colorful era/ locales instead you really couldn't tell when or where it was until a character told you. (Except Belle did see a cow in the countryside once ...)- Belle. Was. Annoying. It didn't make sense reading about her supposed uber naivity, then her being super introspective (as though she'd

i can't believe people gave this book 5 stars. actually that's a lie, i can believe it because i've seen it but i want people to recognise it for the trash-lit that it is. junky, trite garbage but a must-read if you have rape fantasies or are starved for english-language books like i currently am.
